Finances

“I want to be rich in 2025!”

“Define rich.”

“I want to be a millionaire!”

“How do you do that?”

“Get over a million dollars!”

“How do you get a million dollars?”

“Ummm….hmmmm..Win the lottery!”

And thus, it goes. To boil it down, to control your finances is what most want.  The more control the better you feel. People start out 2025 wanting more and better. And they want it now. Who of us has not had these big fantasies? New home, luxurious trips and the list goes on. Happiness gets tied into money. So many people think, I have to save more, I have to quit wasting my money on undesirable habits like gambling, smoking, drugs or whatever is making money slip through your fingers with no return.

What are habits that can lead to financial control and undesirable ones that can make one miss out on getting that control? Great question. For me getting more and more financial control is not one of my main purposes. I have good saving habits and don’t really have any undesirable ones when it comes to finances. No debt, no money consuming addictions and well, no million dollars.  But I wouldn’t mind having more control over my financial future. Sure, I’ll take being a millionaire.

What are some tiny habits? First, I would like to invest more, trade more to increase my current net worth. I have a small portfolio but I really want to grow it. So, I have bought a book on trading. And I have started more than once this year. It sounds interesting and the people who wrote it sound knowledgeable on the subject. I just need to get through it. That means I have to figure out a tiny habit to keep reading it to finish it. Maybe 1 paragraph a day, increasing it slowly but steadily. I’ll have to keep you updated.

Have you heard of the challenge would you rather I give you one million dollars now or give you 1 penny today and double it everyday for 30 days?  If you look it up, you come out way better at the end of 30 days. I am going to try to set a jar or can aside and put a penny in and double it every day to see how far I get. It’s a good test on resourcefulness and small habits. I’ll update after 30 days. Now this is going to be a fun habit.

In that, there is another way to create tiny habits. Make it fun and pleasurable along with convenient. James Clear mentions that in his book. Make undesirable habits not so fun not so great and not so convenient. Start something even small, track it and adjust as needed.

You may be a millionaire before you know it!

February 16, 2025. One penny in.
